Loan/Deposit: Create and Manage Deal

Prev Next

Purpose

A loan/deposit deal records money that your organization borrows or invests for an agreed term at an agreed interest rate. The same deal screen captures both sides of the market: a borrowing (bank loan, intercompany loan, facility drawdown) and an investment (term deposit, intercompany placement). Ripple Treasury manages the full life of the deal, from capture and confirmation, through each interest roll and rate set, to maturity, rollover, or early repayment.

Features of loan/deposit deals:

  • Capture Borrowings and Investments: A single Borrow or Invest radio button setting determines the direction of every cash flow on the deal.

  • Fixed or Floating Interest: Enter a fixed rate, or select a reference rate basis and let rate sets fix each period’s rate. Overnight and compounded reference rates are supported, including lookback, shift, lockout, and preceding conventions.

  • Drawdown Facilities: Link the deal to a facility and tranche so that the drawdown consumes the limit, including where the deal currency differs from the tranche currency.

  • Model Irregular Deals: Use a custom schedule for amortizing principal, stepped rates, or non-standard interest dates.

  • Forecast Forward: Use auto rolls to project a rolling deal beyond its maturity for cash forecasting and risk analysis.

  • Renegotiate: Amend, roll over, or prepay a confirmed deal, keeping the full transactional history linked to the original.

  • Track Cash and Accruals: Every principal, interest, fee, accrual, and revaluation event is generated automatically and feeds cash forecasting, the Borrow/Invest Statement, and the Accruals Report.

  • Settle and Account: Standard settlement instructions and GL mappings on the deal drive settlement and the accounting entries produced by financial instrument accounting.

Lifecycle and Status

The deal status is shown at the top of the deal capture screen. The typical lifecycle is Capture > Submit > Confirm > Settle events through the life of the deal > Mature, roll over, or prepay.

2026-09-24_16-00-07.png

Available statuses:

  • New: The deal has been captured and saved but not yet submitted.

  • Submitted: The deal has been submitted for checking. Key economic fields become read-only.

  • Approved and Unapproved: Used where your site requires a separate approval step in addition to confirmation.

  • Confirmed: The deal has been checked and confirmed. Its events can settle, and renegotiation actions become available.

  • Rejected: The deal was rejected at checking and is returned for correction.

  • Unconfirmed: A previously confirmed deal has been unconfirmed, with a reason recorded in the History tab.

  • Partially Settled: Some, but not all, of the deal’s cash flows have settled.

  • Settled: All of the deal’s cash flows have settled.

The buttons available at the top of the deal depend on the deal status, your permissions, your site’s licensed modules, and the workflow configured for the deal. A deal opened read-only shows no action buttons.

The available fields and whether they can be edited depends on the product selected, your license, feature settings, and the status of the deal. Fields that drive the economics of the deal become read-only once it has been submitted, and can then only be changed through a renegotiation.

  1. Create or open an existing letter of credit deal. Refer to Deal Portfolio: Create and Edit Deals for the steps to initiate deal creation or editing.

    • Deals are primarily created and edited through the Deal Portfolio screen (Risk > Portfolio > Deal Portfolio).

    • Alternatively, deals can be created from a Facility’s Tranche (Risk > Portfolio > Facilities).

  2. Fill in or edit the fields and tabs:

    1. Details

      • Set whether it is Borrow or Invest before filling out any other fields. This selection sets the direction of every cash flow on the deal and controls the available fields.

    2. Fees: Actual deals. Enabled once the deal has been saved.

    3. Custom Fields: Actual, forecast, and proposed deals.

    4. Custom Schedule: Only when Custom Schedule is marked on in the Details tab. Where a prepayment builds a schedule internally, the tab appears only if the original deal also had one.

    5. Overnight Ratesets: Only where the deal uses an overnight index reference rate with compounding. Disabled until the deal is saved and overnight rate sets exist.

    6. Ratesets: Populated for floating rate deals. Disabled on a new deal until it has been saved.

    7. Events: Empty until the deal is saved.

    8. SSIs: Actual deals at sites licensed for Treasury Management. Not shown for mirror deals or for bank account instruments.

    9. Renegotiations (only visible for issued or revised deals) Confirmed deals, and deals that are in a rollover, prepayment, or transition workflow.

    10. GL Mappings: Sites licensed for General Ledger, on actual deals and amendments.

    11. Auto-Rolls: All deals except amendments and deals that form part of a hedge relationship.

    12. History

  3. Save, submit, and confirm the deal, and perform any other needed actions.

    • At minimum, you must complete the Details tab before the deal can be saved.

Amend a Deal

After a loan/deposit has been submitted and confirmed, its terms can no longer be edited directly. Changes are made through a renegotiation, which keeps the original deal intact and records the change as a linked transaction.

An amendment changes the profile of the deal through its custom schedule. If the deal doesn't already have a custom schedule, the amendment creates one automatically from the current terms. Enter the effective date of the amendment, then change the schedule as described in Custom Schedule.

A renegotiation must be submitted and confirmed before another one can be entered.

  1. Open an existing loan/deposit deal. Refer to Deal Portfolio: Create and Edit Deals for the steps to initiate deal creation or editing.

    • Deals are primarily created and edited through the Deal Portfolio screen (Risk > Portfolio > Deal Portfolio).

  2. Select the Renegotiate tab. The tab lists the renegotiations already performed on the deal.

  3. Select Amend.

Prepay a Deal

After a loan/deposit has been submitted and confirmed, its terms can no longer be edited directly. Prepayments, which may be all or part of the principal, are made through a renegotiation, which keeps the original deal intact and records the prepayment as a linked transaction.

A rollover creates a new deal. The original and the new deal remain linked, and both remain visible for all actions.

Loan/Deposit Tabs

Details

The Details tab is the main data entry tab for a loan/deposit deal.

Base Details

2026-09-25_14-20-46.png

The Base Details section of the Details tab contains all the necessary fields required to identify the deal and link the deal to other areas of Ripple Treasury.

Asterisks (*) designate a mandatory field.

Fields:

  • Borrow and Invest radio buttons: Whether the deal is a borrowing or an investment. Set this before entering the rest of the deal because it determines the direction of every cash flow.

  • Name: Name to identify the deal in reports. Defaults to a combination of the deal type and deal ID, but can be overwritten.

  • Other Ref: Any other reference, such as the counterparty’s reference number.

  • Product: Assigned product. The product determines which fields on the deal can be edited. It provides custom behaviors such as deal capture defaults, valuation inputs or settings, risk modeling assumptions, and balance sheet modeling assumptions. It can be used to group deals in deal listings, reports, and analyses.

  • Facility: The lending limit the deal draws against, either a limit provided by a counterparty bank or a limit provided to a counterparty by a business unit.

  • Tranche: (Only visible when facility is selected) The tranche of the facility being drawn. When a tranche is selected, its key terms are displayed alongside for reference.

  • Portfolio: (Only visible when the deal is created from a tranche drawdown) Portfolio the deal belongs to. When you create a deal from the Deal Portfolio, this field isn’t needed because you create the deal from inside the applicable portfolio.

  • Counterparty: The other party in the deal. A deal can be captured without a counterparty, for example a what-if transaction, but it can’t be settled until one is entered.

  • Business Unit: The operational unit of your own organization that holds the deal. A deal can be captured without a business unit, for example a what-if transaction, but it can’t be settled until one is entered.

  • Deal Group: Categorizes deals into broad groups so that they can be organized in deal listings, reports, and analyses.

  • GL Category: Sub-category of the GL mapping, allowing subsets of the mapping to exist.

  • Liquid Investment: (Only visible Invest is selected) Mark to identify the investment as a liquid asset in the minimum liquidity holdings ratio summary.

  • Liquidity Code: Legacy functionality.

  • Balance Sheet Code: Legacy functionality.

  • *Currency: The currency of the deal.

  • *Principal: The principal amount of the deal. Shortcut entry is supported:

    • b: Billion

    • k: Thousand

    • m: Million

    • t: Thousand

  • Fixed and Variable radio buttons: (Only visible when the deal is created from a tranche drawdown and has a currency different than the deal currency) Select whether the currency exchange rate is fixed or variable.

  • Drawdown Exchange Rate: (Only visible when Fixed is marked) The exchange rate between the two currencies, used to calculate the utilization of the tranche limit. The rate is fixed for the term of the drawdown.

  • *Initial Drawdown Exchange Rate: (Only visible when Variable is marked) The exchange rate between the two currencies, used to calculate the utilization of the tranche limit. The rate is fixed for the term of the drawdown.

  • Drawdown Exchange Rateset: (Only visible when Variable is marked) FX rate sets valid for that currency pair (deal currency against the facility currency). The rate set is the ongoing source of the FX rate, so the drawdown's value in the facility currency is re-measured from it over time instead of being frozen at the initial rate.

  • *Deal Date: The date on which the deal was created. Defaults to today’s date and can be backdated to enter historical deals.

  • *Start Date: The date interest starts to accrue and the principal moves. Locked when the deal has a custom schedule.

  • Term: The period over which the deal runs. Entering a term calculates the maturity date, and changing the maturity date recalculates the term. Terms can be expressed in:

    • d: Days

    • w: Weeks

    • m: Months

    • y: Years

  • *Maturity Date: The date on which the deal matures. Calculated from the start date and term, but can be overwritten.

  • Day Adjustment: What adjustment to make, if any, when an interest payment or rate set falls on a weekend or holiday.

  • Payment Day Adjustment: (Only editable when Day Adjustment is No Adjustment)What adjustment to make, if any, for when the payment is made.

  • Holiday Centre(s): The cities whose holidays apply to the deal. Holidays are non-working days and so affect calculated interest dates and rate set dates.

  • FX Recognition Type: Identifies how any FX gain or loss is to be treated on the Principal value as posted to the GL in order to meet IAS 21 requirements (balance sheet FX gain or loss). Options are:

    • n/a: No accounting of FX gain or loss is required.

    • Rate: FX gain or loss is to be calculated as the difference between the nominated rate and the current valuation rate.

    • Rate Set: FX gain or loss is to be calculated as the difference between the rate used when posting the initial principal movement and the current valuation rate.

  • Recognition Rate: (Only visible when FX Recognition Type is Rate) Fixed rate used to calculate the initial accounting value of the deal.

  • Quotation: (Only visible when FX Recognition Type is Rate) Exchange comparison, currency 1 per currency 2, used in the recognition rate.

  • FX Recognition Rateset: (Only visible when FX Recognition Type is Rate Set) The rate set from which the rate for the initial accounting value is taken.

Interest Details

2026-09-25_14-20-46 copy.png

The Interest details captures the details to enable Ripple Treasury to calculate the interest to be paid or received on the deal.

Asterisks (*) designate a mandatory field.

Fields:

  • Fixed and Floating radio buttons: How interest on the deal is calculated.

    • Fixed: Enter the rate as a value.

    • Floating: Select a basis. A floating basis creates rate set events as part of deal capture.

  • Base Rate: (Only visible when Fixed is selected) The fixed interest rate for the deal. Where the deal has a custom schedule with more than one rate, this field is labeled Initial Base Rate and holds the rate that applies from the start date.

  • Basis: (Only visible when Floating is selected) The agreed reference rate used to determine the interest rate for each interest period.

  • Margin: The interest margin above or below the agreed rate, applied to the total interest calculation. For negative margins, enter a minus sign before the value.

  • Tenor: (Only visible when Floating is selected) The tenor of the reference rate to be used, for example one month or three months. Not editable where the deal uses an overnight or OIS basis, because those rates have no tenor.

  • *Interest Method: (Only visible when Floating is selected and the deal uses an overnight reference rate) How interest is accumulated across the period.

    • Simple: Daily rates are averaged and applied to the principal.

    • Compounding: Each day’s interest is added to the balance that the next day’s rate is applied to.

    • Fixed Indexation: Interest is derived from a published compounded index.

  • Compound Rate Rounding: (Only visible when Interest Method is Compounding) Rounding applied to the compounded rate before interest is calculated, so that the deal matches the convention agreed with the counterparty.

  • *Rateset Frequency: (Only visible when Floating is selected and the reference rate rests on a different cycle than the interest payments) How often the rate is reset within each interest period.

  • *Frequency: The frequency of interest payments.

  • *Arrears / Advance: Whether interest is paid in arrears (at the end of the interest period) or in advance (at the start of the interest period).

  • Rateset Lag: (Only visible when deal uses an overnight index reference rate) The observation convention applied to the daily rates, and the number of days it shifts them by.

    • Lookback: Rates are observed a set number of days before each interest date, while the weighting follows the interest period.

    • Shift: The whole observation period (rates and weighting) is shifted back.

    • Preceding: The rate of the preceding business day is used where no rate is published.

    • Lockout: The rate is frozen at its value a set number of days before the end of the period.

    • Spot Days Offset: Observation is offset by the market’s spot convention.

  • Rateset Offset Type: (Only visible when deal has an overnight index and Interest Method is Compounding) Convention to be applied to the offset.

    • Lookback: Each day uses the rate published a set number of days earlier, with the original day weightings kept.

    • Shift: Whole observation period moves back a set number of days, so the day weightings shift with it. Subtly different from Lookback over weekends and holidays, which is why both exist.

    • Lockout: Rates are observed normally until the last set number of days of the period, when the rate freezes at the last observed value.

    • Spot Days Offset: Basis is a term overnight index (a published forward-looking term rate rather than a compounded daily one). There's no daily compounding to shift, so the offset is simply how many days before the period start the rate is taken.

  • Rateset Offset: (Only visible when deal has an overnight index and Interest Method is Compounding) Number of days the convention applies over, with a day-type of Business Days beside it (counted on the deal's holiday centers). Enter 0 to observe on the day itself. The common market convention is 5 with Rateset Offset Type of Lookback.

  • First Roll: The date on which the first interest payment is due. Calculated automatically from the frequency and maturity date, assuming that any short period, or stub, falls at the start of the deal. The date can be overwritten.

  • Roll Day: The day of the month on which interest payments and rate sets take place. Normally the same day as the first roll, but where the calculated first roll falls on a weekend or holiday and is moved to a business day, subsequent rolls are set from the roll day.

  • Day Basis: The day count convention that determines how interest is calculated, for example Actual/365 or 30/360.

  • Payment Offset: (Only visible when enabled for the product) The number of business or calendar days between the end of an interest period and the payment of that interest.

  • Equal Coupons: (Only visible when Fixed is selected) Mark to spread interest evenly so that each coupon is the same amount, rather than varying with the number of days in each period.

  • Capitalize Interest: Mark to add calculated interest to the principal for future calculations and is not paid until maturity.

  • Custom Schedule: Mark to activate the Custom Schedule tab so that principal movements, rate changes, and interest dates can be set individually. This on locks the Start Date, Term, Maturity Date, Principal, Frequency, Arrears / Advance, First Roll, Roll Day, Day Adjustment, and Holiday Centre(s) fields. To change any of them, unmark the option; any changes made to the custom schedule are lost.

  • Tax: Mark to calculate withholding tax on the interest payable or receivable at the rate entered.

  • Rateset Floor: (Only visible when Floating is selected) Mark to apply an entered minimum rate to each rate set. Where the observed rate falls below the floor rate, the floor rate is used instead.

  • Pricing Data Series: (Only visible when the feature is enabled) The price series used to value the deal, where valuation is driven by a published series rather than by a curve.

This tab lets you attach deal fees to the loan/deposit. Deal fees allow for the capture and reporting of any fees specifically related to the deal.

Add a new deal fee:

  1. Select Add.

  2. Select Existing Deal or New Deal Fee from the drop-down list.

    • Existing Deal opens the Select Deals screen, where you can select from your list of existing deal fees.

    • New Deal Fee opens the deal capture screen for you to create a new deal fee.

  3. Select your existing deal fee or create a new deal fee.

  4. The deal fee appears in the list at the bottom of this tab.

After you add deal fees, you can remove them by selecting the deal fee and selecting Remove. This does not delete the actual fee; it only removes the link between the deal and the fee. To delete the fee, you must edit the actual fee and delete it from the fee input screen.

Custom Fields

2026-09-28_12-28-21.png

This tab lets you capture of text, numeric, yes or no, and special data that is specific to your organization. The special data can be selected from a drop-down list. Custom fields are created and managed in Risk > Configuration > Static Data > Custom Fields.

You can group custom fields, with the group name used as a heading when entering deals. The fields created as part of deal capture are also available for general ledger (GL) output.

If you have created custom fields, enter the data for each defined field. The changes you make won’t be saved until you save the deal.

To enter data:

  1. Select the Value column for the field.

  2. Enter the data.

  3. Select any other location on the screen.

You can make changes to the custom fields at any time during the deal lifecycle.

Custom Schedule

2026-09-28_13-39-35.png

The custom schedule sets out what happens on each date in the life of the deal. Use it for amortizing loans, drawdowns and repayments during the term, stepped fixed rates, or interest periods that don't follow a regular frequency.

The schedule allows for:

  • Principal movements during the life of the deal

  • Changes to the fixed interest rate

  • Control of when a floating rate is set

  • Control of when interest is paid or received

  • Date on which each of these occurs

Lines can also be added and deleted. The schedule can be amended freely before the deal is submitted. Once the deal has been submitted, the schedule can only be changed through Amendments.

Edit Custom Schedule

  1. Select the field to be edited for the date where the change is required.

  2. Edit the field.

    • Date: Event date.

    • Payment Date: Date for payment.

    • Rate Set: Unmark so that no rate set against the reference rate occurs on that date.

    • Interest Rate or Margin: Edits automatically change all future rates through maturity.

    • Movement: Positive or negative change to the principal for the event. The Principal field is automatically calculated and all future principal amounts are updated through maturity.

    • Interest: Change from Full to None to set a date where interest is not to be paid or received.

    • Capitalise: Mark to add the interest for that event to the principal instead of paying it.

    • Principal: Total amount of the principal after the event. The Movement field is automatically calculated and all future principal amounts are updated through maturity.

    • Comment: Add a comment to the event.

  3. Select Save.

    • Changes to the custom schedule are not saved until the deal is saved. If Custom Schedule is turned off in the Details tab before the deal is saved, all changes to the schedule are lost.

    • Insert Row: New row is added above the selected row.

    • Delete: Selected row is deleted.

  3. Select Save.

    • Changes to the custom schedule are not saved until the deal is saved. If Custom Schedule is turned off in the Details tab before the deal is saved, all changes to the schedule are lost.

Overnight Ratesets

2026-09-25_14-14-11.png

The tab is only available when the deal uses an overnight index with compounding, and only after the deal has been saved and its overnight rate sets exist. Deals that reference an overnight index (such as SOFR and SONIA) and compound it over the interest period, don't have a single rate per period. They have one observed rate per business day. This tab lists those daily observations for each interest period, together with the compounded rate they produce.

The Overnight Ratesets tab shows exactly which daily rates were used and how the period rate was built. You can enter or correct an individual day’s rate when the published rate wasn't picked up automatically. The observation convention and any offset come from the Rateset Lag setting in the Details tab, so the dates listed here may sit outside the interest period itself.

Edit Overnight Ratesets

  1. Select the Overnight Rate field for the date where the change is required.

  2. Edit the field.

  3. Edits automatically change all future rates through maturity.

  4. Select Save.

    • Changes aren't saved until the deal is saved.

Events

2026-09-28_15-26-07.png

This tab is read-only. It shows the movement of funds for the deal. For a new deal, this tab is empty.

Examples of loan events are:

  • The principal movement at the start of the deal

  • The interest movement, either periodic, or at maturity

  • The principal movement on maturity

  • The interest accrual as at the end of an accounting period

  • The market valuation of the loan as at the end of an accounting period

When a cash flow is deemed by the Ripple Treasury Platform to be an actual cash flow, the Events tab displays the status of that cash flow. That is, whether the cash flow has been settled. Each interest event shows the start and end date of the period it covers. Only the start date accrues: a coupon of 01-Apr-26 to 01-May-26 carries 30 days, not 31, and settles on 1 May. Principal movements take effect from their own date, so a drawdown dated 1 May raises the balance for the whole of May.

Which of the two boundary dates accrues is set per product in the Accruals section of Application Settings (gear Platform icon > Administration > System Configuration > Application Settings). The accrual method is set per product. The date boundaries affect all reports that include accruals.

SSIs

2026-09-28_15-39-38.png

This tab shows the standard settlement instructions (SSIs) for the business unit and the counterparty, for both pay and receive cash flows. The information displayed is not modifiable. It is provided so that all settlement details of the deal are available in one place.

Where there is a change to the SSIs, such as a new bank account, the display shows the original SSIs at the start of the deal and the new SSIs at the effective date of the SSI.

For a new deal, this tab is blank. When you save the deal and provide a business unit and counterparty, SSIs are visible here. If no SSIs have been set up for the business unit or counterparty, a red warning indicates “No Matching SSI Found.”

Change SSIs

  1. To change the SSIs, select Customize SSIs.

  2. The Custom SSIs screen opens.

    2026-09-28_15-46-14.png

Renegotiations

2026-09-28_15-49-49.png

Each renegotiation must be submitted and confirmed before any additional renegotiations can be entered.

Auto-Rolls

2026-09-28_16-08-14.png

Auto rolls project a rolling deal beyond its maturity date so that forecasts and analyses reflect the funding or investment you expect to keep in place. They do not create actual deals; they generate forecast rolls for reporting.

Auto rolls are also used by the Event Diary. Select Include Auto Rolls on the Event Diary parameters to include the projected events in the report.

Edit Auto-Roll Forecast
